FAQ’s regarding vehicle donations to a non-profit organization.
What can I donate?
Primarily Rescue Rods is seeking hot rods, nostalgia and
muscle cares. However if you feel you have something of values to donate to
help needy children, or if you have any question that are not answered on
our web site, please call (805) 310-2618 and ask for Jerry Roberg.
Is my donation tax deductible?
Everybody’s tax situation is different, so you should
consult a tax consultant. However, Rescue Rods is a subsidiary of the Rescue
Mission Foundation a 501-©-(3) charitable no-profit organization and your
donation may be utilized as a tax write-off.
What do I need to donate my vehicle to Rescue Rods?
A clean title and a current registration are required.
However, in many cases racecars usually don’t have registrations for driving
on the street. If your unsure as to what paperwork is needed please call
Rescue Rods or e-mail us and we will be more than happy to assist you.
What kind of shape does the car need to be in to donate it?
We prefer that the vehicle be intact.
However, depending on the make and model and if the car is in good running
condition, you’ll need to contact us so we can make that decision.
How is the value determined on my donation?
Rescue Rods will provide you with a certified appraiser to
establish the value on your vehicle at no charge to you upon completion of
your donation. In many cases you are allowed to deduct the cost of vehicle
and other repair’s and improvements cost if you can verify those
expenditures.
- Code Sec. 170 (a) says that anyone claming a
deduction for $250.00 must receive a written acknowledgement from the
charitable organization, i.e. Rescue Rods.
- Your deduction may not exceed the gross proceeds
received by the participating non-profit organization. Therefore a written
acknowledgement from the organization must include the sales price of the
vehicle.
How will the vehicle be picked up and
transported?
A competent car hauler company will be contracted at no
charge to the donor to transport the vehicle. The Rescue Rods
transporting company will contact you to arrange the time for pick up.
However, the paper work should be mailed to the Rescue Rods office prior
to transporting the vehicle to assure that your vehicle reaches its
final destination… RESCUE RODS. The reason for doing this is to make
sure that the vehicle doesn’t end up in some ones else’s hands. This
would make it difficult for them to sell the vehicle without the proper
paper work.
Can I choose a charity?
Yes! Rescue Rods vision is to embrace the purpose and
mission of the Rescue Mission Foundation and to help at risk children.
However, we can accommodate your request and that organization will
receive 50% of the gross sales less the transportation charges.
